How it works

The Tradies has been developed as a simple, yet effective platform for customers to find reliable trade services, and tradespeople to build up their client base and find work. We have seen a number of current platforms charging either extremely high fees for sourcing job leads, or deducting high commission rates from completed jobs. We have developed this platform to be used initially by customers and tradespeople from the North West of England completely free of charge. We may look at branching out to other areas of England at a later date, but our focus currently is on the North West. 

The function of our platform is simple, yet has all the features needed for a smooth transaction between customers and tradespeople. Customers simply create an account and post a job to be advertised on the projects page which tradespeople can then send brief message proposals for. The customer will then receive notification that they have received proposals and can login to view the tradesperson’s profile and contact details should they wish to discuss the project further with them. There is also a built in messaging system that allows customers and tradies to chat directly through the site. Customers information is never shared on our platform with any tradesperson, only the tradespersons contact information will be shared with customers, only once they’ve applied to one of their job listings, putting the customer in control of who they choose to hire.

  • How do i post a job?

    Create your Employer/Service Seeker account, it should take you no longer than a couple of minutes. 
    Once approved, make sure you are signed into your dashboard, and click Post Job on the dashboard Menu.
    Fill out a few details about what type of service you’re looking for and submit the job for Admin to approve. 
    Once the job is approved, the listing will show on the Projects job page for Freelance Tradies to apply to.
  • How do i know what my budget should be?

    Job Budgets

    The job budget is just so the Tradesperson can see an estimate of what you want to spend. Please bear in mind that when the Tradie visits your property to quote, they can quote over your estimated budget, and if you’re budget is too low, you may put Tradies off from applying to your post. 
  • How do I view job quotes and proposals?

    Applications to jobs

    When a Tradie applies to your job, you will be notified by email. You can login and go to your dashboard to view proposals. From there you can view the Tradies profile and work gallery, you’ll see the Tradies email address and phone number, or you can click the chat now button to use the built in Tradies Chat.  Normally, you would arrange for the Tradie to visit your home to give a quotation.
  • How do I complete and pay for a job?

    Once you have contacted the Tradie and they have visited your property to quote, you can go to your job proposals and click Hire Now – this will change the job status to ongoing. You can both then use the Project History fields to keep each other updated on progress and further requests. Once the job has been completed you can go to your “Ongoing Job”, click project history, and change the status to completed. After this, you can then leave them a review and rate their work. We do not get involved in anything to do with payments for jobs and this is left for the Customer and Tradie to discuss. 
  • How do I keep updated about any ongoing work?

    Once you have the Tradies contact details you can either contact them directly, you can use the platforms Tradie Chat, or there is a Project History section against any ongoing jobs, where you can both send messages, and attach pictures and files to keep all information relating to the project in a central location.

  • How do I setup my profile?

    You can edit your profile within your dashboard by clicking settings – edit profile. Please make sure that your profile is as detailed as possible, as this is what the person booking you will see when you submit a quote. Make sure you have a clear profile picture, some images of your previous work, your skillset, and a description of your services as a minimum. 

  • How do I apply to jobs?

    To apply to jobs, login and click the Search Projects link in the header of the website. You can then filter using the search tools to find suitable jobs. Click on View Job and then you will be able to submit a proposal. Don’t be put off from applying because of the job budget(this is just the customers budget estimate) – you can quote higher than the listed cost. 

  • What happens after I submit my proposal?

    Once you have submitted your proposal against a job, the customer will receive an email notification to login and view your proposal and profile. They will see your contact details on your proposal along with a “Chat Now” button where they can initiate a chat using the integrated Tradies Chat. Once the customer contacts you, it’s normal practice for you to then attend the property and issue a full quotation after viewing the work that needs to be completed. 
  • What happens after I visit the customer to quote?

    After you have attended the property to assess the final quotation the customer can then login and click “Hire Now”, which will change the job to “Ongoing”. Once the work has been completed, the customer will change the status of the job and can then leave a review against your profile for the work that’s been completed. We do not get involved in any payments for jobs, and therefore this is up to the customer and tradesperson to discuss. 
  • Am I guaranteed work after sending proposals?

    When you send a proposal to a customer, they will be issued with your email address and phone number in order for them to contact to and arrange for you to visit their property to quote. It is the customers choice which Tradesperson they decide to hire, so we cannot guarantee work as we leave this in the customers hands. The customers also has the right to cancel their jobs if they decide they no longer need the work completing.

The Tradies is focussed on bringing you a reliable marketplace where customers can easily find trades services, and where tradespeople can builds up their customer base and online presence for further opportunities of work.  
  • Employer/Service Seeker Charges

    Employers are never charged for listing jobs on our platform, or for directly contacting Tradespeople on our site. 
    Some chargeable features may be brought in at a later date, such as featuring jobs, but it will never stop them from using the platform or posting jobs for free!
  • Freelancer/Tradie Charges

    The Tradies is a new platform and we intend for everyone to experience it free of charge until such time comes where we need to introduce charges. 
    Everyone who joins the platform during 2023 as a Freelance Tradie, will never pay to send proposals and quotes to customers.
    So get signing up now for free lifetime membership at zero cost. Everything to gain, nothing to lose.
  • Do you take commission from jobs?

    TheTradies do not get involved in the job payment between customers and the Tradesperson, we also do not register or keep track of financial proposals. We do not get involved in any payment transactions between the customer and tradesperson, so no commission will be taken from jobs you source on our platform.
